Welcome
The First Baptist Church of Sunrise is a member of The Great Commission Ministry and came into being on June 21, 1961. On this date, the church was officially established as a mission under the sponsorship of the Southwest Baptist Church.
Brief History
The church started with 49 members in Lauderhill City Hall, and on January 31, 1962 acquired the property on which the Church is now located. On February 28th of that same year, Lauderhill Baptist voted to change its name to Northwest Baptist Church. The name of the church was later changed to First Baptist Church of Sunrise Golf Village, to reflect the surrounding community. In 1996, however, the name “Golf Village” was dropped, leaving its name as “First Baptist Church of Sunrise.”
Who We Are
As a member of The Great Commission Ministry (Southern Baptist), we adhere to the doctrinal position set forth in the Baptist Faith and Message. We believe in the verbal inspiration and teaching of the Bible. We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. We believe that Jesus was crucified, buried and raised from the dead; that He ascended to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.
We believe that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and that repentance is commanded of God for all, and necessary for forgiveness of sins. That regeneration and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ, and sanctification subsequent to the new birth through faith in the blood of Christ through the Word and by the Holy Spirit.
